Summer at DCAC: Healing Through Creativity, Adventure, and Play

Summer at DCAC: Healing Through Creativity, Adventure, and Play

Healing doesn’t only happen in a therapy room. Sometimes it happens while painting a picture, cheering at a baseball game, building a bridge from everyday materials, or laughing alongside new friends.

This summer, Denver Children’s Advocacy Center’s Kids Groups have been creating opportunities for children to build confidence, express themselves, and simply enjoy being kids in safe, supportive environments.

Celebrating Creativity

Our Creative Kids program recently wrapped up its 12-week session with a colorful Art Show celebrating the imagination and hard work of every young artist.

Throughout the session, participants explored different forms of creative expression while building friendships and confidence along the way. We are incredibly grateful to the families who joined us each week and helped create a space filled with encouragement, creativity, and connection.

We’re also thankful to Lifespan Local at Blossom House for partnering with us and providing such a welcoming space for several of our art sessions. Their partnership introduced families to another community resource where children can continue learning, creating, and having fun.

We can’t wait to welcome our Creative Kids back this fall for another season of creativity and inspiration.

Adventure Around Every Corner

Adventure Kids is now halfway through its eight-week summer program, and every week has brought a new opportunity to learn and explore.

The summer began with hands-on STEM activities, where participants designed and built bridges and floating creations to see if they could support toy cars in the fountain. They also personalized adventure hats for upcoming field trips and signed the Adventure Kids banner to commemorate the start of the season.

Since then, the group has explored Denver together with field trips to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and a Colorado Rockies game. Recently, the kids got to enjoy a special interactive performance from Inside the Orchestra, where musicians introduced them to the joy of music through hands-on participation.

This visit also launched one of our newest offerings: Adventure Kids Drama Club. Led by DCAC intern Isabelle, the program encourages children to explore acting, storytelling, creativity, and self-expression in a fun and supportive environment. After an enthusiastic introduction during the first week, we’re excited to watch the children’s confidence continue to grow throughout the remainder of the summer.

Building Community Through Play

This summer also brought another exciting opportunity thanks to our partnership with the Colorado Rapids.

Our second annual Colorado Rapids Youth Training Session July 17th will offer kids ages 5-12 an evening of soccer, movement, and fun. Thanks to the Rapids’ generosity, participants received free soccer balls, water bottles, and other giveaways while learning new skills and building confidence alongside friends, family, and community members.

The event reflects DCAC’s commitment to providing positive experiences, supportive relationships, and opportunities for healthy play are all important parts of any childhood.

More Than Activities

Whether children are painting, exploring science, discovering music, trying theater, or kicking a soccer ball across the field, each experience is thoughtfully designed to help them build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create joyful memories.

At DCAC, we know healing looks different for every child. By offering opportunities to create, explore, and simply be kids, we’re helping children and families continue moving forward – one adventure at a time.

Thank you to our staff, interns, community partners, and families who make these programs possible. Together, we’re creating spaces where healing can happen every day.
