Jane was 4. Her parents were divorced. Her dad was a truck driver, and her mom lived in an assisted living facility because of a terminal illness. Jane’s loving grandparents cared for her, except when her father was in town once a month.
After spending time with her father, Jane would often seem to describe adult activities that she should not know about at age 4. Her grandparents reported their suspicions and Jane was referred to DCAC.
A forensic interviewer helped Jane talk about her experiences, and for the first time, an adult understood what she was trying to tell them. Jane’s father was sent to prison and her mother passed away. DCAC staff provided counseling services to prepare Jane and her grandparents with not only how to overcome the trauma of her abuse, but also the loss of her parents.
