Job Opening: Child and Family Therapist - Full Time Position

PURPOSE:  Provide assessment and therapeutic services to child victims of crime and to non-offending family members.  Provide a continuum of therapeutic services to children ages 2 to 17 who have been victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence, witness of homicide and/or other types of trauma.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Conduct thorough initial clinical assessments on child victim and parent(s)/guardian(s) to obtain psychosocial history, medical background, presenting problem(s), mental status, substance use/abuse history, family strengths and involvement with the criminal justice system;
  2. Ensure that, according to DCAC policies and procedures, all forms related to the provision of direct services are signed by parent(s)/guardian(s). Releases of Confidential Information, Informed Consent, & Disclosure Statements are among the forms that need to be signed during the first appointment with DCAC;
  3. Provide information to non-offending family members regarding their rights as victims of crime, Victim Compensation assistance, and other community resources;
  4. Develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the victimized child and non-offending family members;
  5. Collaborate through case management with professionals, social services, and other agencies to provide a continuum of care;
  6. Implement appropriate therapeutic interventions for the child and non-offending family members;
  7. Maintain case files and progress notes;
  8. Maintain case tracking systems;
  9. Participate in weekly clinical supervision;
  10. Assist with DCAC community outreach efforts, prevention, training, and agency functions;
  11. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other community providers;
  12. Participate in staff meetings and in any other administrative or clinical meetings scheduled by Program Managers and/or by the Executive Director;
  13. Attend training sessions, conferences, and agency cross-training events as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of Masters degree in psychology; Counseling, Social work and/or other related human services field is required;
  2. Minimum of two years post-masters degree direct clinical experience conducting assessments and providing therapeutic services to victimized children and families;
  3. Licensed by the state of CO (psychology, counseling, social work, marriage & family therapy);
  4. Professional knowledge of the impact of trauma on the developing child;
  5. Ability to work well with others and to communicate clearly;
  6. Bilingual and bicultural (English-Spanish) skills are desired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work and/or other related human services field is required;
  2. Licensed in the State of Colorado is required;
  3. Bilingual-bicultural (English-Spanish) skills are a plus.

Job Opening (Volunteer Position): Volunteer Coordinator

Purpose: To coordinate the recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention of Denver Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) volunteers. DCAC provides assessment and treatment services to child victims of crime and their non-offending family members.

Reports to: DCAC Program Managers

Responsibilities of the position:

  • Independently develop and coordinate the volunteer program at DCAC, including volunteer recruitment, scheduling, training, and retention.
  • Manage volunteers who provide a multitude of services to DCAC and the families we serve, including, but not limited to:
    • front door reception and answering the phone;
    • caregiver support and education;
    • assisting children and families with activities, play, projects, books;
    • child care;
    • assisting with DCAC events, fundraising, and other projects;
    • facility support and maintenance.
  • Work with Assessment & Treatment Program Managers to create and implement volunteer training.
  • Provide a safe and stable environment to non-offending caregivers and other family members, as well as children.
  • Provide guidance and education to non-offending caregivers and family members. (for example: to support and educate a parent in specific parenting skills that will help set limits and boundaries for children.)
  • Support and encourage the contributions of diverse volunteers.
  • Participate in the special functions of DCAC and training opportunities that are made available.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience with volunteer organization, specifically program development, recruitment, and retention.
  • Experience in or knowledge of small agency volunteer programs and the ability to develop a new volunteer program and track volunteer information.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and cultures.
  • Knowledge of child development, child abuse dynamics, normal child development, parenting, and social service systems are all helpful.
  • Ability to converse fluently in Spanish a plus.
  • Previous experience in parenthood, teaching, nursing, social work, and/or victim advocacy may provide a solid basis for this volunteer role.

  • Ability to work well with others, communicate clearly, and network;
  • Excellent written and oral skills;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Genuine interest in people and the ability to listen empathically to their stories, needs, and dreams.
